The Best Foundations I Tried in 2016!

I know we're well into the second week of the new year but... HAPPY 2017 EVERYONE! A new year means new opportunities to grow, so I hope I can encourage as many readers as I can to convert to an animal friendly lifestyle. This is my first post in the new year, so naturally I wanted to look back into 2016 and share what I discovered. Today I wanted to talk about the three best cruelty free foundations I tried last year, and one of the worst. Like always this is my own opinion and review from experience.
The best foundation I tried in 2016 was from one of my favorite companies Too Faced Cosmetics! For the most part my skin is clear, but can sometimes get oily around my "T" zone. I love the Born This Way foundation because it's lightweight but still provides excellent coverage. I never had problems with this foundation wearing off by the end of the day, and for the size of the bottle I was pleasantly surprised about the amount of product I could get out. I definitely recommend if you have not tried this foundation yet 'cause baby, you were born this way.

My second pick comes from Tarte Cosmetics and it is the Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation. Much like Born this Way, Rainforest of the Sea is lightweight and does provide me the perfect amount of coverage. This product is vegan friendly and is infused with non-chemical SPF 15 sunscreen. This is a great option for the summer time when you're not up for a full face in the blistering heat. The only complaint I have about this product is the amount of actual foundation in the bottle. Since the top is a dropper, I felt like the applicator took up a lot of bottle space in the inside. The design on the exterior is gorgeous, but the pretty colors will peel off almost immediately after a few uses.
My final favorite foundation I tried in 2016 is Kat Von D's Lock-It Foundation. If you're looking for a foundation with heavier coverage, I believe this may be the one for you. It is not as light weight as the two I mentioned above, but the coverage is great. I am very satisfied with the amount of product that comes in this bottle. One little pump can go a long way, so don't go overboard if you decide to try it. My only complaint is my skin gets a little dry when using this product, but it is winter and the cold air dries out my skin. The best part about this product is its vegan friendly and has a gorgeous design. Any of Kat's products look amazing on a vanity, and her compassion for animals always has me going back for more.

The product I liked the LEAST in 2016 was Becca's Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation. In a previous blog post I did last year I had mentioned a Becca product that was shattered as soon as it came out of the box. Well, I decided to give Becca another try. The first thing I noticed about this foundation is there is only nine shades to choose from and I fell right in between two. Since I tan so easily, I decided to opt for the darker of the two. Unfortunately, it did kind of look like mud on my face. I did tan as expected during the summer so it got a tad bit better, but I was not fond of the quality of the product. I had to constantly add setting powder throughout the day because my forehead and nose would get so oily. As for the design. here we go again with that bulky dropper. I did not get very much use out of this product because it ran out very quickly. At $44 USD, it was the most expensive foundation I had tried last year, but the one that ran out the fastest. Although I have not had a good experience with Becca so far, I'll never give up on a company that is kind to animals. Maybe I’ll try a blush next? :) Thanks for reading!

I have to agree I'm obsessed with Kat Von D's foundation. It's so far my absolute favorite. Have you tried Hourglass yet? Also I'm super curious to see what you think for concealer *hint hint* =D

I haven't tried Hourglass yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. Especially their blushes! I'm still trying to figure out what my favorite concealer is, but I'll definitely do a post soon! :)

Born this way is what I use and so far has been my favorite. 2017 will definitely be all cruelty free make up for me. 🐶

Gaby, I am curious as to what you know about Younique? Is it cruelty free? I've been wanting to try their foundation because it's supposed to cover so well but I don't want to spend so much money on a product that is not cruelty free.

In order to be certified cruelty free a company must not test their products on animals, pay a third party to test on animals, have ingredients tested on animals, use raw material suppliers that test on animals, and sell in countries where required by law. Unfortunately, Younique is not certified cruelty free. This doesn't mean they aren't cruelty free, but they have stated that they "have not conducted an in-depth cruelty-free review tracing each ingredient back to such ingredient's original source at this time." Because of this, most cruelty free bloggers do not consider Younique as a cruelty free company.. at least until we get more information. Kind of tricky, but this is how many companies get away with calling themselves cruelty free. I hope i helped!

I've only heard of a few of these brands but it's always disappointing to find that you fit in between two of the different shades that are offered when it comes to foundation. I mean, I don't have time to buy both of them and mix the two! Maybe I'm just too lazy. Also I'm always worried about how my face will react to it. Thanks for sharing this! (;
